Have you ever been inspired by a fragrance when creating your makeup look?
Well, that’s exactly what happened when I tried the new Charli XCX x Impulse fragrances – a blast from the past (Impulse Tease as a dupe for Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, anyone?!) that made me want to shake up my makeup routine to add a little bit of Rock & Love into my look. Inspired by the scent, I raided my beauty cupboards for some drugstore favourites to create a look that would match the fragrance – a little bit of pop art mixed with 90s cuteness; effortless yet sassy, bold yet chic.
A Rock & Love Inspired Beauty Look
Starting with a spritz of the Rock & Love scent, I was inspired by the singer’s signature rock look to create a glamorous yet edgy look. Edgy in my books definitely can still look beautiful, so a flawless base is the first step. I chose my new Bourjois City Radiance foundation and concealer to create an almost airbrush effect foundation; which also works to protect skin against environmental aggressors (even rock chicks don’t want wrinkles!). The Radiance Reveal concealer has been a new addition to my everyday makeup routine and definitely rivals the likes of NARS and By Terry when it comes to combatting those under eye circles caused by staying up binge watching Making a Murderer late nights at rock concerts and other things that the cool kids do!
The striking black manicure and Charli XCX’s signature smokey eyes lead me to pull out my most intense cat-flick liner from the beauty stash – and at under £10 this Topshop Matte Liner is incredible value too. I line my eyes close to the lash line and extend into a perfect cat flick, before using a long lasting liner like Urban Decay’s Up All Nighter to smudge along the bottom lash line for that true Rock Chick look.
While the Boom Clap singer is famed for her daring lip colours of bright fuchsia or bold red, I opted for a softer shade (I’m a beginner at this Rock look after all!) and went for one of my L’Oreal Colour Riche lippies in Eva’s Nude shade. The long wearing lipstick would be perfect for any all night party girl, while the slanted tip of the lipstick means that application is incredibly easy. I love the matte finish that it gives, kinda like the matte lips on the Vanilla Kisses fragrance!
As for the eyes, this is where you can get really creative! Inspired by the Amber & Orange blossom notes from the fragrance, I chose to mix some of the bold, warm colours from the Gwen Stefani x Urban Decay eyeshadow palette. The shades are easily buildable and blendable so a nude base can be built on with shimmering Amber shades before a pop of colour such as cobalt blue or fuchsia pink is added to the lid.
Both the Vanilla Kisses and Rock & Love fragrances are available from Superdrug for just £1.99 each – budget friendly, amazing pop art packaging and a seriously snazzy fragrance!
