Botanicals, Buttons & Basket Bags
Tomorrow marks the official start of Summer 2018 – woohoo!! – so to celebrate, I’ve shared my favourite Summer trends in my latest YouTube video, as well as tips for how to style them. Of course, upon doing my research I discovered even MORE underlying trends which I just had to share with you on the blog too.
The three additional trends which I just adore and can’t wait to wear include Botanical Prints, Buttons and Basket Bags.
Let’s start off with Botanical Prints. This year, gardens are absolutely in fashion with Celine kicking things off with the seventies style floral dresses they showed on the catwalks during Fashion Week. Erdem’s entire show was botanical themed with the runway being set in a 19th century greenhouse, and even Royal Ascot set the dress code theme as ‘floral’ this year. Don’t get me wrong, flowers are always in fashion for spring and summer, but this year more than ever! I’m seriously tempted by these beautiful printed Gucci loafers, as I get SO much wear from my leopard print ones, but perhaps I’ll start off with something a little more affordable like this D&G phone case or Topshop botanical mesh top!

Buttons are a subtle design detail, but one we are seeing across designers and the highstreet alike. With brands such as River Island quick to adopt the trend (and creating some incredible dupes for the Balmain collection!) it’s a trend that’s very affordable to adopt. Retailers like Mango are creating more casual chic pieces with the buttons as the centrepiece of the look while Topshop beautifully finish off some beautiful broderie anglaise style designs.

This Summer I’m pleased to see the basket bag trend returning, and it’s bigger and better than ever before! The higher priced retailers are still leading the way with their beautiful designs, but again stores like Topshop are offering super affordable alternatives (this one is currently in the sale for only £10!!!!). Whether you’re heading abroad for a beach trip, or just want to bring that seaside chic look to your next BBQ or Garden party, why not add a bit of fun to your #ootd with a basket bag!
