My Christmas Party Beauty Routine

My Festive Party Makeup Look

It’s no secret that I stick to a pretty simple routine when it comes to my makeup. I’ve never been one to be hugely experimental with my makeup looks, instead I like to keep it fresh, natural, and use my makeup to accentuate my features, rather than mask them. When it comes to a Christmas party look, I like to add in some eyeliner, a touch more highlight, and perhaps a glittering eyeshadow, but my radiant base, and natural looking makeup routine provides the foundation of my look.

This year, it seems more than any others before, I’ve found myself getting glammed up for so many festive events, ranging from just last week a special lunch at one of my favourite London restaurants with one of my favourite brands that I’d worked closely with all year (for this I went for my everyday makeup look, but a glossy red lip) to a spectacularly glamorous evening event at the Savoy, where the dress code was ‘Savoy Glamour’ – I chose to keep my skin and lips neutral, but my eyes smokey and bold, to balance with my dazzling green sequin dress. I usually choose my outfit first for these festive occasions, and choose my makeup and hair look once I’m dressed, to see what works best for the finished look!

Each and every festive look starts with a radiant and glowing base, and for this I use the bareMinerals Original Foundation. I use it day and night, often building it up to multiple well blended layers in the evening for more coverage, while a light dusting is perfect for day to day. It gives the skin a beautiful glow, and provides coverage without caking. My skin looks healthy, and the clean, 5 ingredients within the foundation don’t clog my pores, they say in fact it’s so pure you can sleep in it! After using the foundation for many years, I can apply my base expertly in just a few seconds, it creates the perfect canvas for any look.

A special offer…

If you watched my Instagram stories yesterday, you’ll have seen that currently there’s an epic offer on via QVC, where you can get the Original Foundation, as well as a highlighting palette and 3 x lip glosses (all pictured above) for under £40, while the collection is worth £120! Balancing my Makeup with my Outfit

As I mentioned, I like to take inspiration from my outfit when choosing my makeup look, and my last two special festive occasions provide great examples of this. In the imagery here, I decided to wear a soft pink silk dress for dinner with my closest girlfriends. I wanted to look very ‘me’ but with a luxe, radiant touch to the look. Mirroring the sheen in the beautiful dress, I added a touch of glowing highlight to my cheekbones, and added a flick of soft brown eyeliner in a cat flick style to enhance a feminine, fluttery eye look. A delicate light pink gloss on the lips was enough to transform my usual daily nude lip to something a little more glamorous.

On the other hand, while getting ready for our evening of glamour at The Savoy last week, my dazzling green sequin midi dress called for something a little more dramatic! My signature fresh glowing base was once again the starting point, but I built up a stronger contour, a defined (but still nude!) lip, and a bold brown smokey eye – the perfect balance for a glamorous dress! I find rich jewel tones such as emerald green, a striking red, or opulent blue shades work well with neutral toned makeup, so the brown smokey eye worked well to give an ombre look to the eye, making it stand out without being too bold.

Other favourite combinations at this time of year, include mixing metallics, and playing with metallics and white for your festive look. An all white outfit with a frosty silver makeup look (a pop of champagne highlight in the corner of the eyes, along the cupids bow, and on the cheekbones) is a fabulous way to make your all white outfit stand out. Equally, white and gold is another combination I love to experiment with, a red lip, gold accented eye and glowing base is something you can’t go wrong with at this time of year!

Not everyone loves the fresh light tones like I do, a friend of mine with darker hair and a love of black party outfit looks dazzling with a deep berry lip – for an all black party outfit, a statement lip is the perfect finishing touch.
