Now I know what you’re thinking…
This tiny sequin number is a little risqué for me, right?! So I’m 26 years old and it’s been about 4 years since I wore a dress this short, but having fallen for the on thea couple of weeks ago, I was desperate to try it out.
Having not worn something so short or revealing in quite a few years, but definitely not wanting to miss out on such a fab party dress, it took a little bit of a pep talk with myself before I could confidently rock up to the party in my new sparkling number.
It got me thinking, ’tis the time of year when lots of us have fabulous and fun events to attend, and for many of us it may have been quite a while since we last wore a short dress or skirt, so if, like me, you’re in need of a little confidence boost when it comes to trying something a little different, then read on!
Firstly, wear whatever you feeling amazing in!
Usually my go to dresses are with a classic silhouette, and yet when party season swings around I can’t resist trying something a little more daring. If you can try on a and feel totally confident in it then go for it – no matter if it’s different to your usual style. If you don’t feel great in something, it will show; so perhaps if you love a dress but you feel like you’re revealing just a touch to much skin then choose a fabulous cover up to pair with your statement dress, just like this – perfect to give a little more modestly at least until you’re a glass of prosecco or two in!
Hit The Gym That Day
This sounds totally cliche, and don’t get me wrong, one gym session amidst an entire season of over indulgence isn’t going to give you a Victoria’s Secret bod, but the superficial reason to burn some calories the morning or afternoon before a night out is to get your endorphins pumping. I instantly get an exciting energy burst and feel powerful after a workout – it shifts your energy onto the bits that you love about yourself, and you won’t end up worrying if you enjoy one too many canapés during the events!
Have a pre-party routine
I love to indulge in a couple of hours of me time before I head out in a new patty frock; I don’t want to feel rushed in my decision in what I wore, or what I accessorised it with – so spending a few hours relaxing makes all the difference. A long soak in the bath, lighting some candles or treating yourself to an at home facial with your favourite masks gives you time to unwind and feel totally chilled out ready for the night ahead.
Treat yourself to a Mani or Blow Dry
If there’s something that I can treat myself too that instantly makes me feel more confident, it’s a blow dry. Oh my goodness those blissful ten minutes of getting a head massage while the deep conditioner works its magic to leave my locks soft and shiny, and then leaving with a big bouncy blow dry – it’s an instant way to make yourself feel like a total queen on the big night. Having perfectly quaffed hair also ties together your whole outfit; instantly making a fabulous first impression, you’ll soon be feeling that killer confidence when the compliments start to roll in.
Mirror Mirror…
It can sound a little bonkers, but giving yourself a positive pep talk before heading out can make a huge difference; before the party, instantly up your confidence by using positive affirmations in the mirror. Speak kindly to yourself throughout the day which will hep to rewire your brain to focus on the positive aspects of yourself, and focus less on your flaws and imperfections. Equally surround yourself with positive and complimentary friends before heading out; it’s fabulous how much confidence can be racked up by spending time with friends who will notice how much effort you’ve gone to for your evening look!
