I adore wearing a soft pink lip – since swooning over Elle Woods and her unashamedly girly style in Legally Blonde since I was about 10 years old, I’ve always reached for a pink lip product when I want to create the ultimate feminine style. Three products stand out for me at the moment, with one to suit each budget, and product preference. For lipstick lovers, the age-defying Clarins Rouge Eclat; girls who love gloss will adore Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Velvet; and for a subtle balm, I love the Pixi Shea Butter Lip balm.
Starting with the most luxurious product, the Clarins Rouge Eclat lipstick offers long lasting colour as well as hydration. Recently I’ve been choosing this as my everyday lipstick as it stops my lips getting dehydrated in the cold air. The Nutri-Youth complex also boosts collagen, and Vitamin E which protects against free radicals. It’s very comfortable to wear and doesn’t dry on the lips, the plant wax ingredients make the lipstick very soft, and Clarins even claim that the formula is age defying! There are 15 shades, but I’ve chosen the subtle Nude Rose – a shade which adds definition to lips, without being a bold colour. They are £19.50 from .
One of the standout drugstore products that I’ve been using on my lips this year is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet; giving your lips intense colour with a matte finish, it’s lovely to apply and comfortably lasts all day long. With a handy doe-foot applicator, it glides onto lips and ‘sets’ to a matte, velvety finish. The colour is light but buildable and the formula is enriched with oils which give the gloss its soft ‘second skin’ feel. I find that I don’t need to top up this lip product throughout the day anywhere near as much as I do with normal lipsticks; I touch up after eating (I’m the messiest eater!) but even when I do, I could get away with leaving it! There’s 8 shades to choose from, and they’re £8.50 available from Boots.
For the easiest way to add subtle colour to your lips, go for a balm which has a hint of colour. The Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm is like a luxe version of the Nivea Pearly Shine Lip Care stick (review here), with Shea Butter and Vitamin E to nourish and protect the skin, the balms are really pleasurable to wear and make dry lips instantly comfortable. The balm comes as part of a trio, which also includes a clear balm and also a bold raspberry shade. The Nude version (above) is the one that I find myself reaching for most often, as it gives a light coverage of the most beautiful pink shade, which makes my makeup look more complete. The balm is part of the trio which is £18.00 from Pixi Beauty which you can buy online and also from their lovely store in Carnaby Street.
