Tips to Maintain your Holiday Tan

The Glow Must Go On!

While on holiday, I enjoyed delicious Greek and Croatian food, sunrise dips in the ocean from our boat, and basking in the 32°C heat. Typically, now that I;m back in London, it’s overcast and the holiday glow is starting to fade. Determined not to retreat back to my pasty self, I have taken various steps to ensure that the glow lasts. I’ll be continuing this routine until it’s time to bring the onesies down from the loft, and possibly a little after that too!

Here’s how to get that covetable glowing vacation skin, from the comfort of your own home!

Skincare Switch Up

Firstly, protect your skin from pollution. Out in the Aegean sea the air is so clean it’s basically a detox for your skin, leaving the complexion dewy, fresh and smooth. Back in the city smog, my skin looks grey and dull, with the pollution and dry air drying out my skin. Thankfully Elizabeth Arden have launched a new  environmental shield to create a barrier on the skin, protecting from environmental damage. You can see my whole anti-pollution City Skincare Routine in my video here.

I also use the Dr Sebagh Supreme Day Cream to protect against visible light emitted from our screens – more on that here.

Replicate that holiday glow with a highlight that gives that ‘Ive been on the beach all day and don’t need makeup’ look. I’ve got the Glow Kit by Anastasia Beverly Hills on my wishlist, but have been obsessed with new cream highlight sticks from Marc Jacobs recently. I add a bit on the top of my cheeks, under my eyebrows and whatever is left on my brush or fingers down my nose, as well as the cupid’s bow of my lips. The result? Instant holiday glow!

Keep that Sun Kissed Glow

Arguably the most important of all the tips, is to maintain that beautiful golden glow. Last year I was obsessed with Palmer’s Gradual Tan Body Lotion, and this year they’ve upped their game by releasing a spray version (aka the easiest and quickest thing, in the world!) –  .

Gradual tanning gives you total control over the results, you can layer up applications day by day to get a tan to rival a week in Santorini, or just apply once or twice to get a subtle glow. At the moment, I’m maintaining my Greek Glow by using it 3 or 4 times a week.

As it’s from the Cocoa Butter range, it’s incredibly moisturising, so you can skip a step from your daily skin care routine, unlike traditional tanners which need to be applied separately. Application is easy thanks to the spray bottle, you can even spritz over your back or create a cloud and back into it to get colour on those hard to reach places. I spray liberally over my arms and legs and rub it in with my hands before washing my hands after application. Colour develops gradually, and thanks to the lightweight formula, you’re dry and ready to get dressed in just a few moments.

The scent is chocolatey and subtle, very pleasant in fact, and lingers on the skin for a few hours. My favourite thing about the Palmer’s Natural Bronze though has to be the ease of application, it’s quicker to apply than my normal moisturisers, and I’m out of the shower, dried, tanned and dressed in record time.

Palmer’s Natural Bronze Gradual Tanning Spray RRP £7.99 available from stockists including Boots, Boots.com, Superdrug, Superdrug.com, Asda, Feelunique.com
