How To Buy Perfume this Valentines Day
It’s no secret that fragrance is one of the most wonderful things to both gift to a loved one, and to receive. Whether or not you have made your plans for Valentines day, one of the easiest gifts that will undoubtedly be cherished is fragrance; guys – listen up – we all know that flowers and chocolates are the standard gifts but if you’ve already been there, done that, or want something that will make for a more memorable gift that will remind her of you each time she spritzes it, then a fabulous perfume will be the most wonderful gift.
One of the most fail safe things to do is re-stock her favourite perfume; did she wear on your first date? Or is she a regular wearer of Maison Margela as her day to day scent? For extra bonus points you could engrave the bottle with her name too; many of my favourites offer personalisation options including , and .
If she doesn’t have a go-to scent or you want to choose something as a surprise, go for something super luxe. High end scents linger for hours on the skin and are often the type of thing we wouldn’t opt to spend on for ourselves. A new favourite of mine is By Kilian’s Woman in Gold, and the brand also recently collaborated with that’s scented with – the silk-satin set is delicately scented with the fresh and floral notes – a perfect romantic and luxurious gift for Valentines.
If you really don’t know where to start, enlist the help of the in-store sales staff to help you. A visit to the boutique in Covent Garden is a multi sensorial experience with an entire wall dedicated to helping you discover the ideal scent – while you’re there you could even head downstairs to enjoy some grooming in their specialist barbour suite.
And, if all else fails, just go for what you love. Is there a fragrance you can imagine your other half wearing? Chances are, she chooses her scent to please you – especially on date nights and special occasions, so just as you would choose a fragrance that she would find endearing, you can’t go wrong by presenting a gift and telling her, ‘this would smell amazing on you!’

If you’re looking for a scent for yourself, or a loved one this Valentines, then perhaps one of my three favourites could be a good choice;
is one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever known. It’s a white floral scent which is incredible likeable and easy to wear. With inspiration drawn from the ‘authentic spirit of the woman’ the fragrance i reminiscent of a wild garden, freedom and colour. The almost retro, slender bottle appeals to both the minimalist and the feminine, and the scent is light yet long lasting, created with natural tuberose, jasmine absolute and notes of Rangoon Creeper – a plant never before used in perfume making, giving the perfume a distinctive scent.
is a brand I truly adore, their elegant and feminine branding is everything I love, and each product I try from them is a luxurious and wonderful treat. Their and are fabulous addition to their scents, my current favourite of which is the . The Eau de Parfum is sweet with notes of Orange Blossom and Neroli, and eventually evolves to give a fresh scent with a floral heart made up of Indian Tuberose and Jasmine. A few of my favourite fragrance ingredients are combined to give a warm finish of Cedar and Cashmere Wood – a truly sumptuous and likeable scent.
is a darker and more sensual fragrance, and one which I must admit, held a far higher price tag! Just as intense and luxe as the Tom Ford and Kilian fragrances which often surpass the £100 and £200 price marks, the Nirvana Black scent is bold and addictive, with notes of violet, sandalwood and vanilla, giving it a masculine meets feminine intense scent. The bottle is ultra sleek and the brand is one that she may not have tried before, so the gift of discovery could lead to even more brownie points on Valentines day! She’ll be impressed with your unusual choice, and forever associate the scent with your thoughtful gesture.
