NYFW Diary | Day 1

Day one of my trip to New York and i’ve already fallen in love with the city. Ok so it may not be as glossy and glamorous as I had been led to believe in Gossip Girl, and more recently, Made in Chelsea New York, but there is just so much to do, and see (and eat) and I haven’t even done any of the usual touristy things or even gone shopping yet! I’ve never been to New York before so just to pre-warn there are going to be some horribly cliche pictures in my NYFW diary! My schedule is pretty rammed so keep checking up on my Instagram for regular updates.

For the first day of my NYFW diary there was a lot on the agenda, it was going to be a long day – so a hearty breakfast was in order. We are staying in TriBeCa and headed out to Bubby’s cafe (diner?) for pancakes and bacon. While sipping on strong coffee to combat the jet lag, we all compared invitations and itineraries and planned our day ahead.
Seriously the fluffiest yummiest pancakes ever!!
First stop for the day was to The Daily Front Row Luxury Media lounge – meant to be recovery between shows, but after an 8 hour flight, a recovery session sounded perfect. We enjoyed back and neck massages from the pros at the Exhale Spa corner, before getting our brows shaped – the Americans are so groomed and my lovely brow technician Sebastian literally gasped when he saw how un-loved my brows were (and I didn’t even think they were that bad!)
Other treatments on offer were manicures, blow-outs and makeovers, and there was also an exclusive lounge for The Outnet, where we could shop the new Iris & Ink collection which hasn’t even his the online store yet. Key colours and textures included Oxblood and deep Charcoals – lighted up with flashes of salmon pink.
I wore my comfiest heels, from Kurt Geiger, along with a classic white blouse and laser-cut black skirt both from Reiss. My beloved Cecily bag is Mulberry.
Touristy pic number one – on Broadyway!
Before our first show, we grabbed a cocktail, or rather a pitcher of a refreshing Summer Breeze drink at The Standard hotel.
How lovely is this pic of Nancy! So beautiful.
We headed over to the Highline Hotel for the Giulietta show next, where nipped in waists and colour blocking were the key features in every design. There were sprinklings of sparkle – with diamante necklines and the most fabulous chunky heels, as well as the emerging trend of the season – Honey – in many designs.
After heading back to the hotel for a quick change, we took our seats for the Fashion Palette show featuring some of Australia’s biggest designers. The bridal gowns were simply stunning, with lace overlay and sweetheart necks featuring as key trends.
The evening kicked off in style as we watched the fireworks on Pier 59, with the city skyline on the horizon. We had an absolutely scrumptious dinner at a Mexican restart in the Meatpacking district called Dos Caminos (I had Mac ‘n’ Chorizo – need I say more?!) before heading up to the rooftop of The Standard hotel to sip on cocktails while overlooking the whole on Manhattan. The bar also has a giant hot-tub in their ‘Boom Boom Room’ nigh club, but we saved that one for another time!
So a very picture heavy post – but keep an eye on my Instagram for more 🙂
Do you have any recommendations for places to try while I’m here?
