Pre – Holiday Beauty Rituals [Winter Sun Edition]

Those of us lucky enough to be jetting off
for some Winter sun will spend, on average, £472 on pre-holiday beauty
treatments according to research by Debenhams – that’s enough for a 7 night
break in the South of France!

In Winter, we have to work ultra hard to get our bodies ready for the beach,
spray tanning, lash tinting, manicures, pedicures… in fact, we spend an average
of 11 hours beautifying ourselves pre winter break – you could fly to the Caribbean
in that time!

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather put that £472 towards treating myself on
holiday, (room upgrade? fancy meal?) but the thought of hitting the beach with
my body in its current state, well, let’s just say I don’t want to frighten the
poor folk of St. Lucia, so I’ve been saving money by prepping myself at home,
and here are the product saviors that I’ve used to get myself beach ready:

For bikini-beautiful skin, treat yourself
to an exfoliating and hydrating body scrub to ensure your skin is primed to
look it’s best on the beach.
A thorough exfoliation will not only help your fake tan look more flawless, but
will also give you a more natural looking, and longer lasting real tan.
My favourite scrub to use is the Champney’s Spa Indulgence Distant Shores Body Scrub – the crystals are gentle enough for sensitive skin, and the texture is gel – like, so doesn’t leave skin oily or greasy like some other exfoliators.
Best of all is the fragrance – you’ll feel like you are already on holiday with the tropical fragrance, and even after you shower, skin is scented with the mango and passion fruit fragrance!
The worst thing about a Winter holiday is stripping down to your bikini after being wrapped up in a Onesie for weeks at home – but instead of forking out for a spray tan, save by doing it yourself at home.
My tan of choice is Vita Liberata’s pHenomenal tan. (Get it cheaper by buying direct here!) The light, airy mouse delivers a tan that lasts up to three weeks, and deeply nourishes skin. I recommend applying with a tanning mitt, for an even glow.
Dry skin will tan un-evenly, so ensure you beat the winter dullness by upping your skins moisture levels before you fly.
The Drink Up intensive mask from Origins is the easiest way to do this – after showering an exfoliating, I slather this all over my face and neck before bed; and the moisture replacement mask deeply quenches dry skin. The mask contains Japanese seaweed which repairs skins barriers – ideal for maintaining moisture ready for your flight.
Treat your hair to a nourishing and hydrating pre-holiday treatment before you travel. My coloured hair needs something strong, and I rely on Bumble & Bumble’s quenching conditioner. It replenishes vital moisture in the shower and leaves my usually dreadlocky mess of hair incredibly soft and shiny.
Even before hitting the beach, you can get that sexy sea-breezy texture with the surf spray, but i’ll be packing it for holidays and spritzing in my hair before I head into the sun. Spray all over then tie hair in a bun for loose waves. The surf shampoo is also great for pre-holiday pampering; the cleansing formula wipes out impurities leaving hair buoyant and soft.
The great thing about holidays is being able to go make-up free as the sea-air clears your skin, but I refuse to leave the foundation at home if I have a few spots lurking. That, however, was before I discovered the Super Spot Remover from Origins. Ok, so it may be a tad pricey when considering how tiny it is, but it is SO worth it. Why? Because it actually works! There are so many spot removers out there but for me this one is unbeatable. Just dot it on and you can literally feel the Salicylic acid working its magic – instantly speeding up healing and visibly correcting the mark.
So there we have it – beauty products that cost under £100 in total (and you can use them after your holiday too!) instead of forking out at salons. Also, don’t forget you can Shellac your nails at home too – check out my post here on how to do a Gel French Manicure.
Hope this helps – and if you are jetting off for some Winter sun, enjoy!
