2016 Beauty Trends & How to Wear Them Now!
Last year we saw the rise of full brows, even fuller lips, strobing and many more beauty trends, and whenever a new beauty trend emerges, we start to jump on the bandwagon faster that the Kylie Jenner lip kit flew off the shelves! I’ve been doing a little bit of investigating, examining the latest hairstyles, makeup launches and products to see if I can predict a few of the next big trends for 2016.
So keep scrolling to see what I predict will be some of the biggest beauty trends this year, and how you can get ahead of the game by rocking the looks now!
Fresh Skin
While we may still see that almost illustrated makeup look which we’ve become so accustomed to seeing on Instagram, the models at the last fashion week would indicate to us that fresh faces will be big this year too. So, it’s time to start perfecting our skincare routine! I shared all my tips for perfecting your Winter Skincare Routine here and once you have that in order, a glowing complexion should come naturally! But there are a few makeup products which I love to use in order to boost the glow; starting with the . This is a product which just adds a slight touch of coverage, allowing your natural skin to glow through. It’s also got skincare properties, so helps to nourish the skin while subtly tinting and blurring out imperfections. Upon application, you’ll notice a healthy glow, as well as smooth and perfected skin.
If you’re looking for a little more coverage, a new foundation on the market is what I’ve been reaching for to get a beautiful radiant glow while also protecting the skin. Bourjois City Radiance is a lightweight foundation with a brightening formula and fresh fragrance which leaves the skin looking hydrated and fresh, but what I love most about it is the complex which protects the skin from pollution in the city.
Finally, a fresh complexion is not complete without a bright eye area, so using a brightening concealer is the finishing touch to a fresh face. A personal favourite is which is a highlighter and long lasting concealer in one. What’s best though, is that some magic ingredients are not only fatigue fighting, but also correct themselves to adapt to your dark circles. While it sounds too good to be true, this concealer is one that I reach for on days when I want to look fresh faced and flawless!
Korean Skincare
Korean beauty started to make waves in the UK in 2015, and this year it’s just going to get bigger. The products that are coming from there have the most incredible textures and results that it’s easy to see why the beauty editors are already raving about them, and a brand which I’ve recently been testing, Erborian, is giving me instant results and baby-like skin qualities. The solid cleansing oil feels as gentle as a cream, but transforms into an oil when warmed on the skin. My makeup dissolves in an instant and is then treated to a milky soft lotion when I apply water. Instead of that tight feeling following a cleanse, my skin feels pampered and soft.
Another favourite is their BB Flash Essence serum – which has a pearly gel texture giving my skin an airbrushed effect instantly after application. I’ve been loving using this before applying makeup, as skin has a luminous yet velvety finish.
Flushed Cheeks
Backstage makeup artists predicted that this year will see heavy contouring becoming a thing of the past (I’m secretly thrilled having still not mastered it!). Instead, a more sheer application paired with flushed cheeks to make the contour look soft and flattering will be the look to achieve.
Cream products or soft shades are the ones to reach for to achieve this look. A blush with a hint of highlight and one which I absolutely love but don’t give enough credit to is the cheek shade. A very subtle but build able pretty pink shade, and the packaging and presentation is unlike any other! Style meets Philanthropy in this product dedicated to raising recognition and supporting the Conservation Northwest, the product is embossed with the wolf’s face and completed with a company mirror.
As for cream blush, I have two favourites from both ends of the market. For a soft focus dreamy effect, the creates a delicate and innocent glow, suitable for all skintones. My pale complexion needs just a soft sweep of a brush to add that hint of colour, but the pretty pink shade is equally buildable for a deep colour.
The highstreet also has a new range of cream blushers to rival their more pricey counterparts – the Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush. With four different shades including this pinky brown shade (officially named ‘Bronze’), these balms give excellent colour payoff and linger on the skin for up to four hours. Yours for less than £5, these cute little multi tasking products can be applied directly to the cheeks or with a brush for an even softer finish.
