So I was pretty late to the party when it came to superfoods.
I know you’ve heard all about the healing and beautifying powers of superfoods, but usually when we talk about superfoods such as Broccoli, Daikon Radish, Flax Seed etc, we mean consuming them as part of a meal, and not wearing them! Recently though my new found obsession of superfoods has turned from a smoothie in the morning, to incorporating them into my skincare routine too.
It would be all too easy for a new product to just pop a superfood into their product and brand it as ‘Skin Food’, along with the other millions of ingredients that I havn’t heard of, but instead of following the fads, I’ve been treating my skin to the antioxidant and omega rich ELEMIS Superfood Facial Oil – quite literally skin health in a bottle.

How can Superfoods Help My Skin?
Well, while great skin is often partly down to genetics, we can maximise it’s strengths with what we eat. We’ve been fine tuned to know that sugar is bad for us, and it’s certainly true where our skin is concerned too. Sugar causes glycation, where the collagen that keeps our skin looking plump and healthy becomes dry and brittle, as well as inflammation, so cutting sugar from your diet can give almost immediate improvements to your skin. You’ve probably noticed a breakout following a sugary alcohol binge, or even an evening gorging on sweets and chocolates – this is down the the glycation meaning your skin struggles to heal itself.
As well as sugar, unrefined foods are another thing to ditch. Eating something as close to its natural self is so much better for you than something that’s been processed, as the latter is often his in sugar. Even low fat foods contain sugar as a replacement for fat in many cases. Even skimmed milk – sadly the fat once again has been replaced with sugar, otherwise it would taste gross! You may have spotted my vlog from our weekend in the Cotswolds at Lakes by Yoo – where we ate a plant based diet created by Bettina’s Kitchen. After a weekend of her cooking, as well as great skincare, my complexion had never looked better.
It seems only common sense therefore that what you put into your skin via your skincare has the same benefits as what you ingest, and ELEMIS have cooked up a new Superfood Facial Oil that brings the powerful goodness of superfoods into our skincare routine.

Skin Health In A Bottle
The list of ingredients reads like a weeks worth of superfood supplements, containing no less than 9 superfood oils; Broccoli Seed Oil, Poppy Seed Oil, Cucumber Seed Oil, Macadamia Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Daiko Radish Oil, Rosehip Seed Oil, Flac Seed Oil and MeadowFoam Seed Oil. I’ve now been using the Superfood Facial Oil for two weeks, and this combined with superfoods within my diet has resulted in my healthiest complexion yet.
With the science and expertise that we know and love from ELEMIS behind the concentrated formula, in the long term skin is kept strong, supple and healthy. I apply a couple of drops morning and evening before my moisturiser (or sometimes, in place of my moisturiser), and also enjoying a few deep breaths of it’s natural scent before pressing it into my skin.

Does my Skin Need an Oil?
When I first learnt that oil on even oily skins is a hugely beneficial ingredient, it was a game changer. As a gal with combination skin, I was incredibly cautious of applying oil on my skin to begin with. After being coaxed into trying oils by the skincare experts at ELEMIS, I finally gave it a go. Applying an oil has, unbelievably helped my skin become more balanced, have a healthier glow and generally a lot less stressed. Oil helps to nourish and hydrate dry skin, while oilier skin types benefit from oil as the skin doesn’t feel the need to create more of it’s own oil in order to compensate.
The ELEMIS Superfood Facial Oil works well for both skin types too, with easily absorbed vitamins, omegas and antioxidants working to nourish the skin, leaving it radiant and luminous.
Are you more comfortable applying superfoods to your face, or would you rather drink a green juice to get the benefits? Let me know in the comments below!
The ELEMIS Superfood Facial Oil is out now, and retails for £45.00.
