Keeping it Simple

As the temperatures start to drop, a lot of us will notice our skin getting dryer. If you’re lucky enough to live in a warm climate, perhaps you notice air-conditioning and pollution showing its affects on your skin, but for those of us who are starting to see it dropping in temperatures – our skin is taking the hit.

Keeping skin hydrated is key, and of course there are some simple changes or additions to our skincare routines that can keep skin looking glowing and healthy throughout the day. As well as skincare, here are a few of my lifestyle tips for perfectly hydrated skin.

As much as I adore luxurious skincare products, sometimes you just need nourishing and simple ingredients to give your skin the goodness that it needs. Dry skin is often sensitive, so cleansing while it needs to be thorough, should also be gentle. A product I reach for year after year is the Eucerin Micellar Water, with nourishing ingredients such as Urea which is mild yet moisturising, and works to cleanse even the mosts sensitive complexions, even those with Psoriasis. It’s easy to apply too, just with a cotton pad on dry skin – so great on those evenings when you want a quick yet effective cleanse.

Beyond Skincare

Lifestyle choices such as diet of course have a huge impact on skin, and water-rich foods have a great impact on ensuring skin is nourished from within. All year round but especially in winter, I like to make a morning smoothie or juice with power ingredients including watermelon, cucumber, celery etc – these types of foods also contain vitamins and antioxidants to boost your immune system – crucial for these chilly months!

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, drinking enough water is one of the most powerful things you can do to improve the skin. It’s possible for skin to be oily yet dehydrated, and dehydrated skin looks dull and feels sensitive – just a regular intake of water is the simplest cure.

Stepping up your moisturiser is crucial for the skin on your body as well as your face, I have recently added the Eucerin Bath & Shower Oil to my pamper routine which contains over 50% Omega Oils which softens the skin as well as relieving itching and dryness – followed by their ultra rich and nourishing replenishing cream which is perfect for those super dry areas; for me it’s my shins and elbows.

Picking a suitable moisturiser for your skin is really important as you don’t want to add too many excess ingredients to your complexion. The Eucerin Smoothing Face Creme also contains 5% Urea. While being perfect for even the freest complexions, I still find it light, comforting on the skin, and a quick absorbing base for under makeup. Combining this with the Revitalising Eye Cream from the same range ensures that even the most delicate areas of skin are hydrated, with the eye cream also helping to fight puffiness and dark circles.
