Is Burgundy The New Black?
If you follow me on Instagram, you will already be familiar with my growing burgundy obsession! As the seasons change and the temperatures drop, we often find ourselves needing to make small changes to lift our spirits (we all know how hard it is leaving for work in the dark and coming home in the dark). Whether that’s learning something new or exploring new styles; for me I’ve taken it upon myself to venture out of my comfort zone of pinks, neutrals and camel tones and instead embrace the rich winter hues this season has to offer.
Experimenting with the burgundy shade this Autumn Winter has made me realise that the colour is an easy alternative to black. It carries the same dark tones yet it feels much more refreshing and colourful in comparison. The berry hue is just as wearable, perhaps even more so when styled right.
Burgundy is flattering on all skin tones but if you are weary at first why not opt to wear the colour on your nails like I have here or instead choose a few accessories in the colour before fully embracing it. This instantly makes any outfit appropriate for Autumn; Not only is it practical and fits everything you will ever need in it, the pop of colours along the strap allow you to show off your personality and adds a fun and stylish twist to a classic silhouette.
If like me, you want to embrace the romantic hue from the word go, start with a burgundy jacket to pull your entire outfit together. From date night to a day out for lunch with the girls, this from Ted Baker is perfect for throwing on over a and jeans as it instantly adds a touch of glamour to the most simple of outfits; creating that perfectly polished look. The statement feature is undoubtedly its plush faux fur cuffs which not only gives you some serious style points but paired with the burgundy colour, it immediately makes the outfit look a lot more expensive than what it is.
For the past few seasons, the block heel has been in the spotlight as shoppers opt for that chunkier often lower heel, but this Autumn Winter the stiletto is making a comeback. Let’s face it – a block heel will always be more comfortable but a pair of stilettos will always be the hottest type of heel; what with their ability to effortlessly elevate any look, elongate the legs and instantly turn any outfit from drag to fab – I think we can forego comfort just this once – right?! Crafted from long lasting leather and suede in a bordeaux-red hue, these are the epitome of style. They go perfectly with the which actually make the boots pop even more. As they’re an investment piece from Reiss and a lot of thought and care has gone into the craftsmanship, as far as stilettos go – these are actually incredibly comfortable. I wore them for a full day exploring Salem during our recent trip to Massachusetts and not once did I feel the need to sit down and ‘recover’ – and due to the height around the ankle, there was no issues with stability either!
To complete my burgundy ensemble, I have added a pair of . Inspired by space and geometry, the minimalistic design and the subtle diamante detail complements the confidence wearing burgundy brings. Such timeless and classic jewellery will be in fashion forever so it’s worth choosing high quality, signature pieces to carry you through many seasons to come.
So is burgundy really the new black? Well considering how premium it makes every item look and how wearable the shade is I would absolutely say it is and that’s something I can most definitely get on board with.
