How To Master Dressing Comfortably This Winter

As we approach Winter, we find ourselves reaching for those pieces in our wardrobes that offer both practicality and comfort – but we don’t want to disregard our signature style. One of the most important areas of our wardrobes that needs a practical switch up is our footwear, and that’s what this outfit of the day is focused around.

In London, the weather is incredibly unpredictable – we could experience rain, sleet or ice – or all of the above – with no more than a moments notice, so our footwear choices must ensure we are always prepared.

As a ‘petite’, I tend to opt for footwear with a heel, and previously have found it almost impossible to find a practical pair of boots that would offer a solid grip on the sole, and a height boost too – so imagine my sheer delight when I discovered the perfect boots for this age old conundrum and they cost less than £35.

My brown heeled ankle boots are from Deichmann – as part of their Star by Ellie Goulding collection they offer style and practicality at an incredibly low cost. With a leather effect outer, they come in Navy and Black too, and have a tie up lace fastening which you can also by-pass with a zip fastening at the back too if you’re in a rush!

As well as with jeans or classic black leggings, the boots can be styled up with an Autumnal maxi dress for a statement and boho look, or with and a cosy knit such as how I’ve styled them here, for a cosy and yet chic winter look.

As well as choosing practical footwear, keep a look out for textured leggings on the highstreet as these are a fool proof way of adding serious comfort to your Winter look, without compromising on style. The nature of leggings mean they’re stretchy (even better if there’s no zip and they have an elasticated waistband!) and comfortable to wear all day long. Look for a soft or brushed lining (such as these from Topshop) for ultra cosy factor, and pair with a knit that will fall around thigh level for the most flattering look.

At risk of sounding like a stuck record, there really is no greater combination than a under a chunky knit jumper for chic and cosy Winter style. Every year I treat myself to some new thermal tops from M&S and without fail, they are the base layer of my chilly-day #ootds. I love to layer cosy thick knits in soft, brushed fabrics over the top for the ultimate in comfy and stylish looks.
