My Ultimate Activewear Guide
With popping to Pilates classes several times per week plus having Lauren, our personal trainer come to our home gym twice per week – AND doing a lot of my gardening in workout clothing (!!), I spend a fair amount of time in activewear. If you’re anything like me, you’ll also enjoy lounging and pottering around the house in your activewear whether you have a workout planned or not! Read on for my activewear favourites for Pilates, wearing to the gym and for relaxing at home.
Best for looking chic at the gym
When choosing activewear to wear in the gym, it’s important to consider the level of support you’ll need, depending on the activity you’re doing. If you’re a runner, you’ll likely need a high level of support. Sweaty Betty do high-support very well in my opinion, and they even have high-support sports bras specific for running, or yoga bras which offer a lower level of support.
I also love Sweaty Betty’s leggings for looking chic at the gym; the All Day Leggings in shade Umbra Green are a particular favourite of mine, plus you can purchase the matching top if you love a coordinated look, as I do!
It will be no surprise that my top pick when it comes to gym trainers are from Vivobarefoot. It’s so important to look after the health of your feet to prevent future foot, knee and hip injuries from creeping up on you. Barefoot shoes do this by allowing your feet to spread as they should naturally, and they provide minimal padding to allow your feet to connect properly with the ground; it is for these reasons that I love to wear my Primus Lites for weight training.

Best for lounging at home
Activewear is great for lounging at home in as it’s super comfortable and cosy, but you also look put-together enough to pop out to run some errands. Adanola is one of my favourite brands for lounging in, as their pieces are incredibly soft and comfortable, and their bras tend to be a more relaxed bralette style, rather than being a full-on sports bra. I also love the colour options from Adanola, with olive green and coffee bean being particular favourites of mine.
My favourite Adanola set for lounging in is the wrap over leggings, paired with the ultimate tank bra. On cooler days, I’d finish off this look with a cosy Sweaty Betty sweatshirt and socks.
Another great brand for lounging in is Varley. Varley have the softest range of sporty sweatshirts and pullovers. On a cool day, I often reach for my Hawley half-zip sweat for pottering around the house, while on slightly warmer days I go for the very chic Loretta half-zip sleeveless sweat.
Best for popping to Pilates
I think I have a bit of an obsession with collecting cute Pilates outfits! To be fair, I wear these looks several times per week, as well as lounging in many of these pieces at home, and so they are a very important part of my wardrobe. I often choose a sports bra and leggings set from either Sweaty Betty or Adanola to wear to Pilates, such as this yoga bra and these leggings from Sweaty Betty.
For getting to and from Bamford, I love to layer with a piece from Varley, such as the Lisburn zip through sweat or the Bonnie sleeveless tank in the gorgeous shade Mocha Biscuit. I’ll add a cosy sherpa jacket on a really cold day – I know it’s currently summer but there have been days where I’ve considered wearing my sherpa jacket!
Shoes wise, I usually wear a pair of Vivobarefoot trainers such as the Motus Flex trainers, or I’ll reach for my slip-on Urban trainers by Vivaia on days where my feet need more cushioning.
