What To Wear When It’s WET

Our Top Wet Weather Picks

Here in the UK, we have just experienced one of the wettest weeks I can remember! Almost every day has involved torrential rain for hours at a time, as well as strong winds, thunder and lightning. Have you ever heard the saying ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’? Well I’ve got some fashion pieces to share with you which may prove that saying to be correct!

When looking for appropriate clothing to wear on some of the wettest days of the year, it’s a good idea to look to the countryside brands, such as Holland Cooper, Joules and Barbour. These brands all produce super practical clothing which is specifically designed to keep you warm and dry, on even the stormiest of days. Excitingly, I recently unboxed a huge Holland Cooper order which was full of the perfect wet-weather pieces!

On a rainy autumn day, it’s a good idea to layer-up, as the day might start off chilly, and then warm up considerably, meaning you’ll want to peel off a layer or two. A great base layer to start with is a classic Holland Cooper roll neck, which can be layered with a longline fleece to have you feeling extra cosy.

A great option for your bottom half are these Holland Cooper Jodhpurs. They’re super versatile as they’re practical enough for a dog walk, but also stylish enough to wear to a country pub on a Saturday evening. Finish off the look with these incredible boots which have been newly released in this gorgeous rich chocolate brown leather.

As I mentioned, Joules is another great brand to look to for rainy-day wardrobe essentials. Whether you’re looking for cosy fleeces, a new pair of wellies, or an elegant wax jacket, I’d recommend checking out Joules’ autumn collection, which is available to shop at Next.

Another brand I love for wellies are Le Chameau. Le Chameau are known for their beautiful green wellies which are really built to last. These wellies may be an investment, but they should last you a decade or more! You can choose from a selection of linings depending on how cosy you want your wellies to be. These jersey lined wellies are a great year-round option as they won’t make your feet too hot. Equally, you can pair them with a thick pair of socks to make them suitable for winter.

If you’re in need of some boots which are smarter than wellies but just as practical, then you can do no better than a pair of Penelope Chilvers riding boots. These boots are incredibly elegant and feminine, but are also perfect for wearing in the rain, as they’ll keep your legs warm and protected from splashes. Pair these gorgeous boots with a quilted Barbour jacket for the ultimate countryside look!
