Summer is approaching…
We can almost feel the buzz and excitement in the air as the weather starts to slowly but surely warm up, and those rain spells and cloudy days grow further and further apart. Many of us are already buying summer holiday outfits, or have the perfect one in mind. Each year, I invest substantial sums in high street ‘trend’ pieces and fill my suitcases up with patterns, pom poms, textures and tassels, but when will I learn? It’s always just a couple of core pieces that I keep on reaching for while I am away.
It’s these core pieces that I want to talk about in today’s post. I’m sure you already know the ones I mean. Those pieces we throw into our cases as an afterthought, or almost a ‘back up’ or ‘safe’ option, but it’s those exact pieces that while we are away we reach for the most. For me, on my past two holidays (to L.A, and previously to the Maldives) it has been the two same pieces that have become my core, most worn items.
Firstly, the linen shirt. Plain white and therefore always on trend, a simple shirt is one of the most classic items you will ever own. The Jeanne bright white linen longline shirt from is my first choice. (Use code JOSIE for 20% off the entire Joules website until May 31st) It’s a classic cut, and a stylish slightly ‘raw’ finished flax linen material; beautifully breathable for warm days and the light neutral colour works with all of your bikini styles. I was most grateful to have this shirt in my case in the Maldives especially, when I foolishly stayed in the sun too long on our first day – getting awfully red shoulders, I wore the shirt to cover my skin from the rays for the following few days.
Secondly, your go-to pair of sandals.
It’s always surprising how much walking you do, even on the most relaxing of breaks. For me, a pair I can rely on to be ultra comfortable, and that I can just slip on easily and quickly, is essential. The Walk Moses White Sandals from are a perfect choice, and I wore them almost every day while in L.A. With an air-injected moulded sole they fit perfectly around the foot, offering support and comfort for hours of wear. The sandals are made with sustainable plastic, and injected with natural oils which gives them a subtle but pleasant honey-like scent. Again, as they’re white, I find the work with so many of my outfits, and the PVC material means they’re wipe clean too!
Finally, a statement costume.
I used to be a bikini gal, but recently I just can’t get enough of statement swimming cossies. Yes, they’re more flattering as they offer more coverage, but it’s the designs that really get me excited! My latest treat and one which I’ll be wearing on many holidays to come is this leaf print one piece from . I felt as though it had been designed with my L.A trip in mind with the botanical print, and the open back also means I can get a beautiful tan, but also I can indulge in as many burgers and mac ‘n’ cheese dishes as I please without having to worry about the result on my tummy!
