How To Wear a Jumper Dress ( and why I’ve already bought FIVE for this Autumn )

Truly though, is there anything better than a Jumper Dress?!

Cosy factor 10,000 and your entire outfit is pretty much sorted just by choosing one piece! You can wear a thermal underneath and no one would ever know. Jumper dresses are perfect for autumn; they’re essentially a giant jumper that you can wear without trousers and when you have the right accessories, they can be the ultimate chic outfit choice.

The first accessory that always works so well with jumper dresses are Over Knee Boots. Of course, you can always opt for thermal tights, but when the temperatures drop I like to keep my legs warm and add serious style points by choosing a pair of thigh high boots. My and combination is this surprisingly affordable cashmere jumper dress from ASOS, and these grey boots. The natural stoney colour of both the dress and the boots give this outfit a neutral and classic look, meaning you can add in some colour with bold coloured accessories such as and a statement bag.

Jumper dresses can sometimes be a little shapeless, so if you’re concerned that the look won’t be flattering, there are some options. Firstly, opt for a jumper dress made of lighter material. Yes, there’s nothing more cosy than a chunky knit or fluffy cashmere blend, but they can look baggy and unflattering. This dress’s particular cashmere blend is more delicate and light, meaning it fits the body in a more flattering style. Secondly you could add a waist belt to cinch in your waist, or choose an outerwear piece to do this for you. I have finished this look with my gorgeous studded trench coat (a sale bargain on Lyst!) which can be pulled in at the waist for the ultimate feminine silhouette.

Of course, dressing a jumper dress up in this way isn’t everyone’s style. You can make a jumper dress look chic and casual with flats or even trainers, and why not toughen the look up with a leather jacket? A cross body bag is a great way to add a luxe finishing touch to a more casually styled jumper dress.

Other accessories that work well with jumper dresses include long necklaces – there can be a lot of ‘plain’ fabric with a jumper dress so this is a great way to add interest, or if an extra layer of warmth is needed, why not opt for a scarf wrapped a few times around.
